I had my first "this is an earthquake and I know it" earthquake, a little before 5am. It was a 4.2 in Oakland and about a 3 by us.

The entire room felt like it was bending out of shape and bulging to the right, and then it suddenly snapped back into place. It felt extremely weird and almost cartoonish, and by the time I thought, "Is that a--?", it was over.

ooh, sparkly!

Tonight I gazed upon Venus, Saturn, and about five different towns' fireworks displays from my balcony. We're five floors up and facing north, with a nearly 180-degree panorama of sky. All of it was lit up with glitter, from the ocean to the bay, and we were surrounded by the crackling and booming of it reverberating off the mountains. And it's 65F out, so we're not sweltering in the heat. Matt brought some hot tea out, even, about halfway through.

Have I mentioned how much I like where I'm living? It was fantastic. Staying home was definitely the right thing to do. :)
