a brief adventure
Saturday, June 8th, 2002 11:31 pmNeither of us were feeling particularly well this morning, so the day started slowly. I had a nice chat with
zoo_music_girl while Matt put the finishing touches on his design, and other than that, we really just rested. We did make it into the city around 7pm to get a price quote on his tattoo. He's decided to go with 5 inches, not 8, and they gave him an extremely reasonable price.
I had kind of hoped that work would begin on it tonight as long as we were there, but they didn't have an opening big enough for him (hush, Beavis), so we made an appointment for next weekend. He'll get the outlining done then, and they'll possibly fill in the black bits, depending on how long it all takes. Once that heals, he'll have a second sitting to add color. I'm teasing him that in the meantime, after it heals, we can experiment with different color combinations by drawing on him with crayola markers. :)
The studio kept the design to touch it up a bit and smooth out the pixellated curves. I'm really excited -- I know it's going to look gorgeous on him. This will be his first, so I'm also curious about how he'll take the pain.
Having just gotten to Manhattan and not wanting to turn around and rush home, we went to the Telephone Bar for dinner. I had a pint of Tetley's (which I didn't even like until I started drinking it at Whitby for lack of other options), and grilled salmon on field greens with miso dressing - very healthy, and excellent ...followed by (also fairly healthy) tropical fruit with guava sorbet for dessert.
The weather was pleasant, a little cool and breezy, so instead of taking the subway, we walked back to the car. From 2nd ave at 10th street to 7th ave and 24th was a nice bit of exercise.
I was feeling a little introspective during dinner and the walk back -- it was the first time I'd been to that part of town, and that restaurant, since an out of town guest was here a little while back. It made me think lots about that night, that weekend, and everything that's happened since. Oddly, I realized I was also wearing the same outfit I'd been wearing that night, too. It hadn't even occurred to me till after we left the tattoo studio.
Back home now... Needing tea, but in general feeling more relaxed than I've been all week. I think it's the company. I hate that I have to give Matt back to Delaware again so soon. I could get used to having him around. :)
