gray day thoughts
Friday, January 11th, 2002 10:30 amI was in a pleasant enough mood when I woke up this morning, but the combination of dreary, rainy weather and the Buffy soundtrack in my ears had me a bit downspirited and blah by the time I got to the office. I need cheerier music if I'm going to be listening to my headphones on the way to work. My current playlist consists of Buffy, plus a sprinkling of Dar Williams and Linkin Park. Strange combo, I know, but it's all stuff I like. Listening to Dar sing about Spring Street while I was walking down Spring Street to the office was a fun bit of planned synchronicity. I think I'll keep Dar and add Indigo Girls, Ani, Yehudit Ravitz and Kathleen Mock, and give Buffy a rest for a while. Maybe I'll add Joan to the playlist too. There's a song of hers that's been caught in my head since I met her.
I don't feel like doing anything today, and everyone else seems to be out, so I'm just looking for more backup for my report. This involves brainstorming about what other trends I might try to find, i.e. sitting around and pondering. I can handle that. All I really want to do is curl up under a blanket and listen to the rain.

stare at the pic for at least 30 secs. stare seriously and give yourself lots of time to examine the details.. what do you see?
(Oh, and don't peek at the comments till you've seen it, really *seen* it, 'cuz we've got spoilers here now, and it will completely ruin the fun, trust me.)

someday... music
Friday, January 11th, 2002 07:18 pmReally. Sometime before I die, I will figure out how to record my originals onto CD.
I was feeling inspired tonight, so I plugged the mic into the computer and set about recording, very simply, from the synth's speaker into the Windows Sound Recorder. Problem: the computer makes so much white noise that it interferes with the mic. The mic cord isn't long enough to take it far enough from the computer. The Windows Sound Recorder only records 60 seconds anyway.
My midi studio software only records the keyboard - it isn't interested in letting me add a vocal track. And it only saves to a wacky proprietary format that can't be turned into anything useful. That's no help.
Anyone got a recording studio they want to help me play in for a couple hours?
